Runaway Bay Locality Guide

Runaway Bay Locality Guide

Originally known as Angler’s Paradise, Runaway Bay is surrounded by South Stradbroke Island to the East and beautiful canals to the west. Only 10 minutes south of the M1 and a stone’s throw from the ever-popular Broadwater, Runaway Bay is definitely located in a prime position for a relaxing lifestyle.

Location Description

Bracketed by South Stradbroke Island to the east and a colourful canal system to the west, this northern Gold Coast suburb was originally better known as Angler’s Paradise. It’s a fishing feast galore here where you can opt for deep sea reef and game fishing, or select the more sedate option of dropping your line in a calm water estuary.

The waterways around here are known for being abundant in snapper, kingfish, pearl perch, tuna, wahoo or mackerel. In the early 1970s, this parcel of land was transformed into the more upmarket Runaway Bay, but the laid-back vibe remains. These days, the local marina is bursting with luxury yachts and plenty of options to explore the local waterways though houseboat hire. THose of us who prefer to keep their feet dry will enjoy the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre, while sports enthusiasts will be drawn to the aquatic and sports centres nearby.

Shopping can be done locally at the Runaway Bay Shopping Village or at the Harbour Town Shopping Outlet which is only a short drive away located in Biggera Waters.

There are many restaurants located along Oxley Drive in Runaway Bay which boast quite a lot of variety giving diners both dine-in and take-away options. Paradise Point is also only a short drive away providing a few more options.

The nearest cinema is the Reading Cinemas, also located in the Harbour Town outlet shopping centre.
